The Pennsylvania-Delaware Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has awarded WRT’s Project FDR Park Master Plan – A Resilient Vision for a Historic Park with an Honor Award in the Analysis and Planning Category.
FDR Park Redevelopment Master Plan
The historic FDR Park was reimagined to fulfill its original intent as an urban oasis. The plan creates a dynamic, sustainable, and resilient green space to meet the needs of South Philadelphia’s growing population in an evolving urban landscape. WRT engaged nearly 3,000 community members in a year-long planning process to examine the ecological and economic challenges facing the park’s development. The master plan is viable and aspirational meeting the needs of park users today while also inspiring investment well into the future.
Comments from the Prairie Gateway ASLA Chapter jury reflect the goals of the Master Plan which was to have a “truly a creative understanding of park amenities and ecological interest all while having the certainty that the community in which uses it had a voice in the planning process.”
Congratulations to the entire team, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, the Friends of FDR Park, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and Mayor Jim Kenney.
