NC Five was one of eight projects selected to represent the highest standards of achievement in the development industry.
Modeled to complement the ULI Global Awards for Excellence, the Philadelphia award winners were identified by a national jury as successful developments that advance the ULI mission to shape the future of the built environment for positive impact in communities worldwide.
“The Philadelphia Awards for Excellence celebrates all aspects of development and land use projects that embody the ULI mission. Projects are considered not just for one element, such as design, but for a range of characteristics including leadership in development, sustainability and building performance, market acceptance, and community impact,” said Anne Cummins, Chair of ULI Philadelphia.
NC Five, which opened in the fall of 2021 and is located in Philadelphia’s North Central neighborhood, is a leading example of what green and healthy mixed-income housing should look like: designed to optimize and enhance all social and environmental determinants of health and well-being. The 133-unit mixed-income project was designed with community well-being and environmental efficiency at its core, drawing on a series of stakeholder engagement meetings to ensure it would meet the needs of the surrounding community.
WRT was involved from the onset, working as Planner for the North Central Choice Neighborhood initiative, then as the architect and landscape architect for the implementation phase. The project is a successful example of the profound impact an integrated planning and design team and forward-thinking developer can have on a community.
